The hallway was also found to have the solid wooden floor under the carpet that was covering it. The front door is single glazed and needs replacing once everything else has been decided. The hallway cupboard remains, and the shoe racks around the corner will be boxed in, with the electricity RCDs that are beside them, just in front of the wetroom and entrance to Bedroom 5/Utility Room.
From the lounge to the front door, infrared heater on wall and the door to the garage can be seen through the top pane of the front door, across the open porch.
The old kitchen can be seen through the door on the right before it is all renovated.
The open porch, seen from inside the front door and looking across to the garage
Shoe racks (well re-purposed bookcases really) round the corner from the front door. One of these will end up in the study, back with books on it and the other will be in the lounge, also with books.
The front door was also done as part of this hallway project, with steps leading up to the door. The original thought was that narrow steps would be used but I insisted upon paving slab size steps. The builders tried to talk me out of it but in the end Rab agreed that it looked much better with the big steps even though he didn't want to do it. Nice of him to actually say so.
Utility room being built on the left and Sandy and Neil are sorting out the doorway into the garage which needed to be made taller as the floor had risen from where it was
New ceiling covering in the porch, outside the front door and overhead. Somewhere to stand at the door when it is pouring with rain and stay dry
Beautiful March days to be cutting materials outside and then fitting into the porch and hallway. Looking out from where the front door will be
Looking from the part-built utility room, through the hallway and external porch, out across the garden to the Kyles.
The new doorway being extended upwards and the tough blocks that had to be removed from the garage wall
One of the fixing posts that had to be removed. Quite a lot of time taken demolishing stuff that was very firmly fixed
The garage door, temporarily blocked up while other work was ongoing. Front door space is to the right, utility on the left
From the outside looking through the front door hole, across the hallway to the utility and then the back garden
The front door step being enjoyed in the March sunshine
A front door is fitted
View to the Kyles from inside the front door
Front door fitted, external walls yet to be finished and steps are in process of completion
The same view as above but now the door into the kitchen is glass, the floor is replaced, the cupboard door is changed and is now a pantry instead of coat cupboard. Front door removed and open porch now changed.
The open porch is now an entrance hall and has a double front door. The garage door is straight ahead and there is a door to a new utility room opposite the new front door
A revised shoe rack, that will eventually be behind a sliding wardrobe door in the hallway and filled with many more shoes when I find the box they have been stored in
The bookcase back to being used as a bookcase, now in the lounge
From the garage door, through the entrance hall, through the hallway towards the lounge door, which is also glass.
Kitchen doors from the hallway. Painting yet to be completed
From where the old front door was, looking towards the lounge with the kitchen on the left
It doesn't show well but you can see from one end of the house, through the lounge, along the hallway to the entrance hall
