Bedroom 3
In June 2021, as we moved in, Bedroom 3 was a holding room. A large room situated downstairs behind the lounge that could take mattresses and beds, boxes and bits, furniture and fittings all quite easily. It still had a number of bedroom cupboards in it and these we removed quite quickly as they were dated and not to our taste. We painted it white and, when we had visitors with a baby, put down underlay to make it a little more comfortable until we were ready to finish it. We also added thermal curtains as this is on the rear of the house and gets colder than some of the other rooms. We have used it as a guest bedroom until now (Nov 2023) just with these updates.
Now, as the ensuite in the next room is being completed we have painted one corner Dulux Denim Drift, to complement the curtains and had a carpet put down. Semi-finished. It still has woodchip paper all over every wall and the ceiling and the lighting has not been changed. I also need to find the silver/grey table lights that are still in a box somewhere. We did try it out as a dining room to see what it looked like but at the moment it is better as a bedroom until we can get Bedroom 2 sorted out in 2024.

Before clearance
Empty room
Our stuff starting to be put in
Our dining table and clutter
Painting the room white
Adding thermal curtains
Guest Bedroom with underlay
Empty bedroom again
Just the dining table remains as it is too heavy for us to easily lift out. Door to Ensuite 3 is open and to the right of the table
Nov 2023 - Now carpeted and the dining table is in the middle of the room, for the moment
Trying it out with the chairs to see what it looks like. We don't use a dining room very often

Guest bedroom, carpeted and curtained, until at least Bedroom 2 is renovated.
26 Aug 2024: The builder, Sandy, and his mate Neil arrived to begin the major work on the house. They started the church end of the property and have now taken down the boarding between the lounge and this room to create a doorway. They found that the supporting wall hadn't been built correctly and it therefore needs to be reinforced and supported to ensure that the ceiling is corrected from its 25mm droop and doesn't drop any further. There is very little insulation in the walls, it is wafer thin, so all external walls will be stripped, re-insulated and then re-plastered as we go. Rebuilding a home from the inside out!
Carpet rolled back and furniture covered ready for Sandy
Wall demolished (almost) between Bed 3 and lounge
The Dining Room/Bed 3 completely stripped out
The very thin insulation that we found is in all the external walls
Week beginning 30 Sep: The furniture from the Dining Room/Bed 3 has been moved to the lounge now so that the room can be stripped back to the wood frame and the insulation can be replaced in the external walls. This insulation was so woefully thin and desperately needed upgrading so we are completely redoing all the external walls and ceilings plus a number of the internal walls as well. Money put where it can't be seen but will hopefully help to keep the electricity bills down. There has never been any central heating in this home and so no radiators. We are many miles away from a gas supply and that, along with oil is being phased out in Scotland. We only have electricity unless we want to spend over £10k to have a woodburner put in to heat one room, and even those the Scottish Government is trying to kill off. We are going to use Infrared foil instead and hopefully the insulation will help drop our annual £3k electricity bill down.

Windows replaced and walls now insulated and boarded
Week beginning 14 Oct: A lot going on but it's hiding behind plasterboard. Sandy and Neil have straightened walls and ceilings, stuffed them with thick insulation and then attached plasterboard over the top where they can.
The walls they can't get put plasterboard on yet are those waiting for new windows. Two new windows went in on Friday in the dining room, the old windows with secondary glazing that had just a small gap between the panes went out and the new proper double glazing was put in. Plasterboard next week on those walls and the plasterer is going to have a look sometime too.
Week beginning 21 Oct: The windows have now been replaced with new double glazed units and the walls, having been insulated, have now been covered with plasterboard. Plasterer awaited.
